A fundraising initiative is aiming to launch a Palestinian lullaby to the peak of the festive singles chart. The effort aims to deliver assistance to communities in Gaza while also highlighting Palestinian artistic heritage.
Composer and producer Brian Eno, who features on the track, stated that the single 'Lullaby' represents a chance to show solidarity with Palestinians this festive season. He remarked the potential for an unlikely festive coup.
“That would be amazing if that occurred, yes,” he stated. “I wouldn't be completely disheartened if it doesn't manage to, holiday tracks are a unique phenomenon.”
Palestinian singer Nai Barghouti, who performs on the reimagining of a traditional lullaby called Yamma Mwel El Hawa, explained the song's defiant core message.
“It has a very special place for many individuals,” Barghouti shared. “The essence is that I would rather die in dignity than spend my life without freedom. That’s the main theme of the song; we want to live a respectful existence that we deserve as Palestinians.”
The track was produced in the wake of a major charity concert held in the autumn. First conceived to be performed and recorded live, the rendition was omitted from the lengthy event due to the event running long.
The impressive roster of artists featured on Lullaby includes a selection of prominent voices from the scene. All took part in the September show, which managed to collect a significant sum for charitable causes.
Lullaby was brought to life by a trio of music creators. The single features a mix of the traditional Arabic lyrics with contemporary English verses.
The organizers behind the project have stated that their goal is to generate maximum funds for a charitable pot. These donations will be allocated to initiatives supporting Palestinians through an partnering humanitarian organization.
“We haven't set a specific target,” a spokesperson explained. “We aim for whatever we can get. Of course, the more the merrier. Every penny goes out to Gaza.”
The context in the area was characterized as its widespread damage, with a vast majority of property reportedly levelled or seriously harmed.
“Against that backdrop, a couple of million doesn’t make that much difference. But I think the significant factor is first of all raising awareness for this issue and proving the human dimension of the story.”
The single 'Lullaby' is launching on Friday. Additionally, a video of the charity concert will be made accessible to view on a popular streaming site from later in the month.
