The original stars, Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson are set to reprise their roles in the upcoming Hunger Games series movie, The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping.
It has been confirmed that beloved stars Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson are returning to their iconic characters in the latest chapter of the Hunger Games film series, titled The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping. The film is currently in production.
A Major Comeback for the Franchise
The actors are returning as Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark, the characters they made famous. Speculation suggests their cameos will probably be featured in a brief glimpse ahead, considering the main film series concluded with their characters living in peace.
This represents the sixth installment in the blockbuster Hunger Games franchise.
The Source Material
Sunrise on the Reaping is adapted from a newly published work by series creator Suzanne Collins. It acts as the second film set before the original story after 2023's The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes. Once again is Francis Lawrence, who has helmed most of the previous films in the series.
The Storyline and Fresh Faces
The film's narrative are set in the years leading up to the first Hunger Games, spotlighting a young Haymitch Abernathy. Haymitch, who would later become Katniss's mentor, is shown as a tribute in the notorious 50th Hunger Games.
The cast also includes several accomplished actors in pivotal roles:
- Jesse Plemons is playing Plutarch Heavensbee.
- Ralph Fiennes is cast as a younger version of the calculating President Snow.
Current Projects and Release Timeline
Separately, Jennifer Lawrence is receiving acclaim for the film Die My Love. Josh Hutcherson recently appeared in the successful franchise Five Nights at Freddy's 2.
Regarding the production schedule:
- Principal photography began in the summer of 2025.
- Filming was completed in November of the same year.
- The highly anticipated film is slated for November 2026 theatrical debut.
