The renowned publisher has appointed Ben Brinkman from the creators of Apex Legends to oversee the development team at their internal studio, which is currently working on the forthcoming third-person roguelike extraction-shooter known as this innovative game.
The new appointee assumes the leadership position at the development studio following the dismissal of former leader Michael Condrey, who was removed from his post due to the game's lackluster initial reveal last fall.
Recently, the company's top executive a key figure informed employees about this organizational change through an internal memo, which highlighted that playtesting had revealed the necessity for a clearer vision.
The president expressed that the developers is now overhauling the project with a renewed vision, aiming to better meet community desires.
The news mirrors a comparable step taken by the publisher in August, when they hired Rod Fergusson from Blizzard to assist with the BioShock development group.
Here is the entire message from the president's communication:
Hello Everyone—
I know you all just completed your town hall - I trust you’re as excited as I am with the positive developments. Last time I sent you all a message, I stated the following: “I believe in this group. You all are some of the most dedicated and talented designers we have had the opportunity to collaborate with - and we’re excited for that relationship to persist.”
Through your commitment and versatility, particularly over the past twelve months, you continue to prove that.
The player input from last autumn’s Project ETHOS demo was informative. It affirmed the potential of a action-packed game but made clear we still had work to do. It revealed the necessity for a sharper brand.
The progress is encouraging to see how far you’ve progressed. You embraced the input to consideration and overhauled Project ETHOS with a renewed vision - one that’s ready to deliver on its ambition to our fans.
Our confidence in Project ETHOS strengthens every day. To boost the outstanding development you’ve made, I’m excited to welcome the new hire as the latest Lead of the team. Following a period of discussions, he comes aboard us on the specified date.
His leadership and expertise in the competitive gaming space is vast, having dedicated the recent years producing and leading some of the most popular series in the industry, including Call of Duty: Black Ops, and most recently, the battle royale hit.
I invite you all in greeting him next week. We are all looking forward to continue seeing the development of the game in the months to ahead.
David
The appointee presently serves in the position of executive producer and production lead at Respawn Entertainment for their flagship title. Brinkman previously worked at Treyarch and Activision in various development positions on the iconic franchise games, and, earlier in his career, had stints at 2K and Electronic Arts.
Project Ethos was revealed in last year in conjunction with a early access event. At the time, the developers portrayed the game as a "free-to-play, third-person perspective roguelike hero shooter and an innovative evolution on the genre."
"Create your ideal gameplay session—or face defeat—in this engaging over-the-shoulder adventure! Build your hero in live gameplay to fit your unique tactics," the official summary explains. "Challenge the competition with new abilities, challenges, and obstacles that shift every round. Do you leave securely with your valuable rewards? Or aim high, gamble everything, and hope your group can earn top ranking? The option is in your hands."
The game lacks an announced launch window or supported systems, but players can look forward to further news as development progresses.
