Ten individuals convicted of digital abuse targeting Brigitte Macron

A French judicial body has found guilty ten people for perpetrating the digital intimidation of Brigitte Macron, the wife of France's leader, Emmanuel Macron.
The those on trial faced allegations of disseminating fabrications regarding her gender and sexuality, in addition to making hurtful comments about the couple's 24-year age gap.
The court delivered conditional custodial sentences of a maximum of eight months to the convicted individuals. The complete verdict has yet to be released.
A longstanding unfounded claim alleging that Brigitte Macron is a transgender woman has spread widely since her husband's rise to the presidency in 2017.
This Monday's court decision in France coincides with the Macrons pursuing a defamation lawsuit in the United States against conservative commentator Candace Owens, who has likewise promoted similar conspiracy theories about the first lady's identity.
Their lawsuit states that Owens ignored any factual proof that refuted her assertions in favour of platforming known conspiracy theorists.
Owens has often echoed these assertions on her digital program and social networks, and in March 2024 stated that she would risk all her credibility on her belief that Mrs. Macron is in fact a man.
Brigitte Macron first met her future husband when she was a teacher at his high school.
The pair married in 2007, when the then-29-year-old Emmanuel Macron was 29 and she was 54.
