President Endorses Measure to Disclose More Epstein Documents After Period of Opposition

The US leader declared on late Wednesday that he had signed the measure resoundingly endorsed by American lawmakers that mandates the justice department to disclose more documents regarding the deceased financier, the deceased sex offender.

The move comes after an extended period of opposition from the president and his political allies in the legislature that split his Maga base and created rifts with various established backers.

The president had resisted making public the related records, labeling the issue a "false narrative" and railing against those who sought to release the documents public, despite promising their release on the election circuit.

But he reversed course in the last week after it become clear the legislative chamber would endorse the bill. Trump stated: "Everything is transparent".

The details are unknown what the justice department will release in response to the legislation – the legislation specifies a range of possible documents that should be made public, but allows exclusions for certain documents.

Donald Trump Approves Measure to Compel Publication of Additional Epstein Files

The legislation mandates the attorney general to make non-classified related files open for review "in a searchable and downloadable format", encompassing each examination into Jeffrey Epstein, his associate Ghislaine Maxwell, aircraft records and travel records, individuals referenced or named in relation to his illegal activities, institutions that were tied to his human trafficking or financial networks, immunity deals and further court deals, organizational messages about charging decisions, documentation of his confinement and demise, and information about any file deletions.

The justice department will have one month to submit the documents. The measure contains certain exemptions, such as removals of personal details of victims or private records, any descriptions of minor exploitation, releases that would jeopardize current examinations or prosecutions and descriptions of fatality or exploitation.
