England's Coach Tim Southee Uncertain on The Ashes Participation
The bowler's last Test match for the Kiwis was against England in December 2024.
England's bowling consultant Tim Southee is still working through what his involvement will be at the forthcoming Ashes series in Australia.
The ex- Kiwi pace bowler is expected to be available for the opening match because of his participation in the International League T20 competition, which begins on December 2 in the UAE.
The 36-year-old, 36, took up a position as the English team's pace bowling advisor in the warmer months after taking 391 wickets in 107 Tests for the Kiwis.
Speaking as England's squad for the first of three T20 matches against New Zealand was named, he said of his availability: "We are still evaluating that at the moment.
"We'll see what happens over the next little while."
English bowling legend Stuart Broad had declared the Australia side as their "worst team since 2010", but Southee was in no uncertainty over what to expect during the series, which begins on November 21.
"I don't think there's at any time a bad Australian cricket team," Southee said.
"The team's attention is squarely on what we're trying to do. In my opinion the caliber of [England's] side that's heading out to Australia is brilliant.
"It should be an thrilling encounter, the Ashes. Not only [are|do] English and Australian people looking forward to it, I believe the entire cricketing community is."
However, before the English team travel to Perth for the opening Ashes Test, they take on the Kiwis in Christchurch on Saturday.
